Apartment Hunting

img_2692This afternoon we’re going back to our new apartment to take some measurements and see what we’ll need to buy to furnish the space. The apartment comes furnished, which is awesome, but we definitely will still need to buy a few things to fill in the gaps and fully outfit the space.

Our stuff that we shipped isn’t available to be delivered for another week, which is kind of a bummer, but I’m excited that we will potentially be fully moved-in next Monday.

I don’t know about you guys, but whenever I find an apartment I want to bid on I get really excited about it initially, and then something weird happens — I start totally second-guessing the apartment once I’ve been approved to rent. I start thinking that the apartment is way smaller than it actually is and that’s it’s a disaster in all sorts of small ways. My brain runs over all the things I “saw” but somehow missed the first time around, so that’s kind of where I am right now — the “oh my god did we just make a huge mistake that place is basically a tiny hell-hole,” stage.

I’m excited to get back into the apartment before we move in this Friday so I can turn off those stupid thoughts, if only for a day or two. The place certainly has its shortcomings (I mean, hello, we’re not made of money over here.) The visions I had of having an amazing bathroom with a huge, luxurious bathtub totally went out the window with this place. The bathroom is fine, and there is a bathtub — but the whole thing isn’t luxurious by any stretch of the imagination. The good news is that the living space is pretty amazing and the kitchen is more than usable, and those are really the most important parts anyway, right?

Anyway, I’ve got a whole list of IKEA items that I’ve got to check off once we’ve surveyed the furnishings, and a trip planned to the store tomorrow. Big plans!

I see a lot of swear words and tiny allen wrenches in my future. Ugh, IKEA I love you, but also I hate you.
