weekend

This Weekend Was

img_7266How was your Valentine’s Day? I hope it was very smoochy and full of chocolate.

Ours was very low-key (just how I like it!). On Saturday night I made dinner for the two of us (I made steak and potatoes from this recipe, with this salad, in case you’re curious). We sat around eating and drinking wine, and it was almost like the old days, until Prim woke up at 11pm and refused to go back to sleep, which meant that the three of us had a little hour and a half pow wow in her room reading stories together until she finally decided she was tired again. It’s almost like that little lady knew that we were having a little celebration and she just couldn’t stand not being a part of it (and I have to admit that there’s a part of me that really didn’t mind a bit, because the three of us curled up together on the tiny twin bed in her room, reading story after story and singing songs, was kind of the best thing ever.)

On Sunday, actual Valentine’s Day, KC let me sleep in until 10am (!) which was the BEST present (because going to bed at 12:30am and being woken up again at 4am and 6:45am does not a rested mama make!) I got up in time to get Prim down for her first nap and then made pancakes for KC and I to have for breakfast.

We don’t usually do gifts for Valentine’s Day (it’s flowers and champagne, if anything), but here’s how I know that KC and I have been together a loooong time and are totally on the same wavelength — we each bought three valentine’s cards for each other this year. One card for each other, one for Prim, and one for the other person from Prim. I mean, we didn’t even talk about this ahead of time or anything.

KC’s cards to me were so sweet, and the one he got for Prim totally made me cry (because once you have a baby you’re a sensitive sappy mess about everything, apparently). He also got me a very fancy bunch of red roses, which are currently looking festive in the middle of the dining room table.

After breakfast and exchanging cards, we lounged around watching TV until Prim woke up, and then KC caught a nap while I fed Prim lunch and got her dressed for the day.

We decided to go on a walk together in the afternoon, so we strapped Prim into her stroller and headed toward downtown. Prim napped a bit and we got to chat about nothing (one of my absolute favorite things to do with KC). It was so nice and relaxing.
