Life Abroad

Hello!

IMG_9161Hi, sorry for the silence over here the past few weeks. We’ve had some visitors — my parents came to Amsterdam, followed by KC’s mom who has been here for the past two weeks. We’ve been busy settling ourselves into our new life here and spending time with our local friends and out of town visitors, so the posting on the blog has taken a back seat to all of that for the moment. Not to mention that six of Prim’s teeth are coming in right now — that’s right, SIX — so teething is high on our list of current priorities.

Honestly, I’ve been a bit homesick these past few weeks. Settling into a new routine and new city, while exciting, necessarily highlights all the things that are different from your old life. On top of that, I was under the weather for a bit, which only worsened the homesickness (um, have you ever been sick with a toddler? In a new city? It’s kind of the worst.) And on top of that, my sister had her second baby recently, and while FaceTime may be the very best invention (thank you, Apple!) it’s certainly no substitute for being able to hold a squishy, sleepy newborn in real life.

The good news is that Prim and I have tickets back to the US in just a few weeks, and we will be spending three glorious weeks visiting friends and family and eating all of the Mexican food we can get our hands on (and by “we” obviously I mean “me and my face”). Really, the promise of delicious tacos is giving me all kinds of courage to brave 17+ hours of travel with Prim all by myself.

Oh! And we booked our very first European “holiday!” While most of Amsterdam takes the entire month of August off to go on holiday, we’re taking a mere week — but I’m so excited! I’ll post the details about our trip this week sometime.

Hope you have a great week!
