Life Abroad

Bad News Bears

img_8855Well, after getting to go back into our new place to take some measurements, we were so excited about our upcoming move. The apartment was even better than both of us had remembered (prior to going back, I was convinced that there was zero storage, KC was sure it had no natural light), so we both couldn’t wait to get through the rest of this week and get to our move in date on Friday.

Then, the other night, it rained. Well, actually, it POURED. We happened to be out grabbing a drink at a local beer bar, and right after we arrived, the skies opened up and it started dumping rain. There was thunder, lightning, the whole bit. We didn’t think much of it at the time, (I mean, it’s Amsterdam — it rains just a little here.) but the next morning we got an email from our realtor saying that when the property manager had entered the unit to start cleaning and making some repairs, there was a huge leak in one of the walls. So now they have to open up a wall and replace some pipes and then close the wall back up… which means we don’t get to move in Friday.

We’re now set to move in on Monday June 13th.

And it could certainly be worse. We were able to extend our stay at the apartment hotel where we’re currently living, and we were able to reschedule with the movers who are delivering the items we shipped…

But it totally sucks.

We’ve already been living in limbo for two weeks, and now we’re now adding another week and a half onto that. Not to mention that prior to this we were living in a space that wasn’t ours for the past eight months, after getting kicked out of our house and moving in with KC’s parents, so we’re both kind of anxious to move in and just get settled finally.

Here’s hoping that they fix those pipes in record time and we get to move in next week… Fingers crossed!
