Favorite Things

Not related to hair…

So it’s that time again…  Yes, it’s cleaning day.  And frankly, I think the weather outside is far too nice for me to be scrubbing sinks and vacuuming rugs; so instead, I’ve decided to do a weekly update on my current favorite things.  (And hey, considering that my apartment seems to get dirty every week and Seuss has yet to start contributing to cleaning day — lazy, see picture — this type of post might just become a weekly thing.  So if you have any thoughts on it, love it, hate it, please let me know).

Oookkk, so let’s start with music.  This week I have been listening to a few songs on repeat: “Us” by Regina Spektor, “Lay Me Down” by (ironically) The Dirty Heads, and “I Need a Dollar” by Aloe Blacc.  If you’re inclined to check out the tunes, know that they’re all very different; so if you don’t like one, you very well might like one or two of the others.  I would have included a copy of the songs on here, but I can’t attach them for some reason (I would guess it’s because they’re under lockdown since I got them off iTunes).  I even tried just attaching the album artwork so you all would have something nice to look at at least, but no dice.  Oh copyrights…

On to bigger and better things.  Now that I’m about 2/3 of the way through my challenge, I have begun to think about what this blog will become once the no ‘poo challenge is over.  I’ve decided to continue the blog and make it into healthy living/lifestyle type thing (vague enough for you?).  I figure since the blog is chelseagofor30, I should attempt something new every 30 days and blog about it.  Next month I have decided to create a food journal where I’ll (attempt to) document everything I eat for 30 days.  This is a little daunting, yes, (especially since I’ve decided to do this the month of both Easter and my birthday) but people have recently become interested in what I’ve been eating because I dropped a jean size at the beginning of the year (more due to Bar Method than my diet most likely).

If you have any other ideas which you think might be good for another 30 day challenge, please let me know.  (It can’t be anything personally or financially crippling, sorry.  Examples: “Take up smoking 2 packs a day for 30 days!”, “Buy a boat!” — I have no clue what that has to do with a 30 day challenge, I was just trying to think of something expensive.)

Ok, back to the favorite things.  KC and I have recently gotten into hiking.  We’ve hiked sporadically over the past 5 years together, but ever since hiking at Muir Woods in November, I’ve been hooked. Most recently we went hiking at the Huckleberry Botanic Preserve, which is up in the Oakland hills.  It’s not a difficult hike and the scenery is beautiful.  I’m no photographer but the landscape is so nice that it can make pretty much anyone look like Ansel Adams.

That’s KC and I hiking at Huckleberry (I made him take pictures of us as well as the plant life).  I guess that’s the first picture of KC I’ve included on here. (It’s fitting that it’s in a Favorite Things post hmmm?)  I’m assuming that everybody reading this already knows KC (because if you know me, you know KC, pretty much).  On the off-chance that you don’t though, there he is.  The B-Fri.  We met in college at UCLA and have been together over 5 years now.  (And if you’re planning on making a comment on the fact that we’re not engaged yet, you can save it.  We get enough crap from our families and friends on the subject, not to worry.)  Hopefully KC doesn’t mind me plastering photos of him on the internet for everyone to see…  I guess if this post gets edited in the near future and KC is suddenly absent, you’ll know how he felt about it.

Onwards and upwards.  The final thing I’ll talk about is my insane love for coffee.  I worked for Starbucks for 6 years (yes, 6.  Age 16 to 22.) and developed a fierce love for hot cups of caffeine.  Ironically, I had never even been to a Starbucks when I applied at the age of 16, and didn’t even like coffee (it’s a wonder I was hired, right?).  Over my 6 years working there though, I was required to learn about the different regions where coffee comes from and how the climate affects the taste, and eventually became hooked on the stuff.  Rarely a day goes by that I go without my requisite 8 ounces.  (And anyone who knows me has probably seen that beat up red travel cup I’ve been lugging around for the past 2 1/2 years).  Also, I did work for Starbucks, but I have to admit that I do enjoy Peet’s coffee (their espresso is delicious); although my current all-time favorite has to be Bluebottle — so expensive, but so worth it (New Orleans style iced coffee?  Count me in).

Ok, unfortunately, Seuss has yet to start sweeping or cleaning the countertops, (in fact, all she’s done is roll on the rug and stalk the radiator so far.  Be less helpful.)  so I’d better be off.   I’ve got a hot date with rubber gloves and some Windex.  Jealous?  I thought so.

You are one of my favorite things. I like the whole blog thing because I have loved your writing for years. But your picture of the trail with the fence is great. And did you make that fancy coffee? If yes, why don’t the ones you make for me have a heart on them?

(If it makes you feel better about the non-engagement situation, Jay and I have been together for 7 years since meeting at UCLA … and my friend Courtney has been with her boy for 9 … we non-engaged people stick together on this stuff. Haha)
