Happy Birthday, Primrose!

May 9, 2016

Dear Primrose,

As of 1:13pm today, you are officially a one year old.IMG_4718I can’t believe it’s been a year already. 365 days of kissing your cheeks, belly, hands and feet. 12 months of snuggles and milk parties and stories and songs and silly faces. 52 weeks of firsts, from smiling to cruising, from first foods to first words.

IMG_4694IMG_5020IMG_5134I remember a year ago today so vividly. I remember the doctor placing you on my chest and holding you so tightly and feeling overwhelmed with love. And everyday since then, your dad and I have loved you and watched you grow, learned with you and watched your little personality emerge.
IMG_6323IMG_7197img_6984You are so funny and sweet and silly, and being your mama has been the greatest gift.

img_6718img_7521-1We love you so much, Sweet P, and we can’t wait to see what year two has in store. Happy birthday, beautiful girl. img_8366Love, Mama

Prim’s Birthday Wish List (or, what I would like to buy her, but won’t)

April 28, 2016

Prim’s birthday is now less than two weeks away, and even though we already bought Prim a gift (which she won’t receive for at least another month because it’s currently packed away with our stuff, sailing on the high seas to the Netherlands), I keep seeing adorable items that I would love to buy her.

I totally get why people go overboard with things for their kids. It’s so easy. Everything is so tiny! So adorable! Not quite as expensive as adult things! (Usually.)

We’ve been very good about keeping Prim’s toy situation to a manageable level — and proof positive that babies don’t need much to be entertained, almost all of Prim’s toys were packed up and shipped weeks ago, and does she care? Not in the slightest. Give this girl an old magazine to tear apart and she’s good.

The list below has nothing to do with what Prim actually wants for her birthday (because, let’s face it, what Prim really wants is to be able to go through the bathroom garbage and to play in Penny’s dog bed. Heaven!)

Here’s really what I have my eye on for Prim’s birthday (but won’t be buying her):

The cutest floppy mouse doll.

An adorable (and totally impractical for Amsterdam) summer dress.

And even though I thought they were a little frivolous, I have to say that these shoes are the best — so soft, and they actually stay on! She wears them almost daily.)

A totally unnecessary (but oh so cute!) baby bonnet.

And finally, a rattle to remind her of her home state. ♥

My Birthday Wish List

April 8, 2016

13247b7a838a11e181bd12313817987b_7My birthday is on Sunday, and much like every other year, I don’t have a whole lot that I’m pining for at the moment. Plus the fact that we’re moving out of the country and can’t bring our whole life’s-worth of stuff with us has really left me wondering, “Is there anything I really need that I can even bother making room for in my suitcase?”

Right now I have a cold which has been kind of brutal, so what I’d reeeaaallly like is a crapload of NyQuil and 24 uninterrupted hours of sleep. Unfortunately, neither of those things are in the cards right now, so here’s the short list of things I’d like for my birthday:

Screen Shot 2016-04-08 at 8.37.54 AM

A new card wallet, since I’ve had mine for years now and it’s falling apart at the seams.

Screen Shot 2016-04-08 at 8.40.23 AM

A beautiful tote in a spring-ready shade that works as a work bag, plane carry-on, or diaper bag.

Screen Shot 2016-04-08 at 8.44.15 AM

A weekend bag, for all the upcoming travel-days. (I mean, basically just buy me everything Cuyana has to offer, right?)

And of course, a massage, dinner out, and a couple extra hours of sleep would be really awesome too 😉

Birthday Wish List

April 6, 2015

13247b7a838a11e181bd12313817987b_7

My birthday is on Friday, and honestly, this year it feels super unimportant.  I’m normally someone who loves any reason to celebrate, (I generally refer to April as my “birthday month,” because why claim only one day when you can claim an entire month, right?) but this year I’m so focused on the impending birth of our little lady, that I really haven’t given my own date of birth much thought.

I thought I’d post the few things I’m asking for this year (fair warning: my list is reeeaaaally boring this year), mainly because I like to know what people like to receive for special occasions.  So here it is, my super-boring birthday wish list.

I’d like…

  1. For people to stop commenting on or joking about how “pregnant” I look.  Yes, I’m 8 months pregnant and I’m 5’1.  There’s not a whole lot of vertical space in my midsection for this little lady, so yeah, I’m looking pregnant (I think it would be a little weird if I wasn’t looking pregnant this late in the game.)  My weight gain has been within normal limits, baby and I are more than healthy, so that’s really all there is.  No need to comment on how “OMG big/huge/pregnant/fat/giant/uncomfortable/tired” I look.  I actually think I look pretty good, all things considered.  Sure, it’s weird hauling a watermelon-sized belly around, but I’m growing a person, so the big belly comes with the territory.  So unless you want to say something positive about my pregnancy or the way I look, I don’t really need to hear the comments/jokes/whatever on my birthday.  (And how fun that society totally has this thing about telling pregnant women how “huge” they are!  Let’s just not, ok?)  IMG_4463
  2. Sephora money — because I’m on the hunt for some new blush!
  3. Prenatal massage (because I could literally go into labor in less than a week, and this super-heavy bowling ball belly makes my back/hips/legs/feet so so tired these days)
  4. Soft, thin jammies for the hospital/nursing.  Specifically, I’d like a nightgown, robe, and some comfy slippers. gap nightgowngap robe
  5. A date night out with KC (because I suspect they’re about to become much fewer and farther between!)
  6. Any items remaining on our baby registries (because, hi, we’re not made of money over here) bugaboo

*ahem, yes, we did decide to get the Mercedes of strollers, because it was the only all-terrain one that I could actually lift when folded (I have a super crappy back and can’t lift more than 20-25 pounds). Hooray for gift cards!

To My Sister

May 23, 2014

2011_12_23_Chelsea_&_KC_Wedding_0807

There are few things in life that are better than having a sister.  And having Alexis as a sister?  There’s pretty much nothing better.

Alexis is the kind of sister who will push and scream at a boy who has just pushed you down onto the sidewalk when you’re 9 years old.

She’s the kind of sister who will stick up for you when you want your curfew extended junior year.

She’s the kind of sister who will come home from college classes the week after you’ve had knee surgery for the second time and take you and your crutches to Fresh Choice (and carry your tray for you while you hobble through the buffet line).

She’s the kind of sister who will live with you while you’re both in law school and help you through finals by agreeing that a Boboli pizza and a terrible Lindsey Lohan movie is a much better idea than spending another two hours trying to understand the Rule Against Perpetuities.

She’s the kind of sister who will not only be your maid of honor in your wedding — she’ll bake your wedding cake for you (and high-five you after the ceremony).

And she’s the kind of sister who makes you have conversations like, “I think I could move away from everybody else, but you would have to come with me.”

I realize that I may be a little bit biased, but I’m pretty positive that I have the best sister in the world.

Happy birthday, Alexis.  I love you, I’m so lucky to have you, and I can’t wait to celebrate another year with you!
