We’ve Arrived!

img_8681-1Well, we’re here. We left the house around 3pm California time on Wednesday and arrived in Amsterdam around 9am California time the following day. Prim managed a total of about 3 hours of sleep during the flights, so that should give you a some idea of how flying went.

I’m supposed to travel back to California with her by myself in July, but after yesterday… we’ll see. I’ve come to the conclusion that people who travel with babies, either a. absolutely have to (us), b. are really smart and/or have a super easy-going child, or c. are really stupid.

After arriving in Amsterdam, we got into the cab to head to our apartment/hotel from the airport and Prim fell asleep hard and immediately (of course). Given that it was early evening, we had to wake her up shortly after getting to our accommodations (poor thing). We settled in a little bit, then located the nearest grocery store and set out to pick up a few things for dinner.

Our apartment is right across the street from a big, green park, and walking through it to get to the grocery store was the first moment I was like, “We’re going to be fine. This is going to be good.” We saw a lot of people walking dogs in the park, which Prim talked about at length, of course (the dogs, not the people). Since dogs are her favorite animal (and the only one she can really identify at the moment), anytime we see one while out and about, Prim will immediately launch into “Dog! Dog! Dog!” over and over.

We picked up some groceries and headed home to have dinner. I managed to get Prim into bed a little before 10pm, hoping that the way-later-than-usual bedtime would help her sleep a little longer. She woke up between 2 and 3am and was up until about 5am, but then crashed until 10am, when I had to wake her up again.

img_8682-1I’m not sure how long this transition into the new time zone is going to take, but we’re just taking it day by day now. If I figure out any tricks along the way I’ll be sure to pass them along, but so far it’s all just trial and error and Red Bull in a sippy cup (kidding.)

Well, I’m off to get ready for the day — we’ve got some apartment hunting to do!
