I was just lamenting the postpartum wardrobe situation with one of my close mama friends. What no one tells you is that having a baby apparently means you have to own clothes in 37 different sizes (unless you’re like a Victoria’s Secret model who snaps right back into her pre-pregnancy clothes weeks after giving birth. And if that’s the case, well… good for you.)
I am no Victoria’s Secret model (shocking, I know), and I am not someone who lost the baby weight instantaneously, so here’s the current state of my closet/the 8 stages of wardrobe grief of having a baby:
- The “I’m newly pregnant and my old clothes fit but are uncomfortable” phase
- The “I’m starting to show but trying to hide it” phase
- The “I’m definitely showing but maternity clothes are still too big” phase
- The “actually fitting into maternity clothes” phase
- The “nothing fits and all I want to wear are pajamas” phase
- The “I just had a baby, but still look pregnant and I don’t want to wear maternity clothes because they make me look pregnant” phase
- The “I’ve lost all but 5-15 pounds of the baby weight” phase
- And finally, the “I’m back to my pre-pregnancy weight but my body is totally different and weird” phase
Oh, motherhood.
(And in other news, happy 6th birthday, blog! We’ve come a long way since 2010.)
