weekend

The New Normal

This weekend was, probably by most people’s standards, really boring. I taught class on Saturday morning and the rest of the day was spent running a few errands before returning home for the evening.

It’s amazing how much of a production it is to get out of the house just to run to Starbucks and Banana Republic now. It’s this 20-minute dance of getting Prim changed, fed, the diaper bag together, the stroller into the car, the carseat moved from one car to the other, and, inevitably, at least one or two trips back into the house to grab something (“Should I bring the wrap? Did you grab the bag of stuff to return? Why am I not wearing shoes?”)

But even though this would probably drive non-parents crazy, I think it’s kind of the best.

Yes, everything is a little bit harder and more complicated with a baby, but I think it’s also way more fun. I mean, watching KC carry Prim around on his shoulders (she likes to grab onto his hair and hold on so tight!) is like all the heart-eye emojis ever.

And our new Saturday nights which involve a pretty long bedtime routine followed by a quiet evening with something simple made for dinner and maybe half a beer unwinding with one of our favorite shows — it’s pretty great. IMG_7027

It’s certainly no night out at a fancy restaurant or anything, but I think there will be plenty of time for nights like that later. For now I’m happy just watching KC play with Prim on the floor while she squeals and laughs as she tries to convince Penny to come within reach.

Oh yeah, AND we started Prim on solids this weekend, which was so funny and adorable. Pictures of that are coming up tomorrow!
